Due to the kitchen set up at Lost Wonder Hut, it won’t be possible for us to safely prepare food for anyone with severe allergies. If you have minor allergies, please email kelsey.b@highlonesome100.com to see if they can be accommodated.
Lodging
Lost Wonder Hut is a gorgeous, privately owned backcountry hut nestled in Middle Fork Basin. The hut is framed by Mount Aetna, the Continental Divide, and the Middle Fork of the South Arkansas River…so trust us when we say it’s stunning. Most runners don’t see this area in the daylight, but you’ll be lucky enough to spend 3 days there. In your off time, the creek provides fun fishing, there are some old historical ruins to explore, a deck to watch the sun rise or set, games, music, and good company.
During our planning, we debated between this hut or something fancier in Salida. We ended up going with the hut for several reasons, but the main one was pretty simple…there is nothing better than being in a cozy cabin, deep in the mountains, surrounded by good people. It’s magical and it’s what the High Lonesome is all about: good people, in gorgeous places, doing big things together.
If you’ve been on a hut trip before, you know what we’re talking about. If you haven’t, then you should come join us!
Accommodations
While the hut is gorgeous, it is still a backcountry hut…so while it will be cozy, don’t expect this to be a Hilton. The hut has solar panels to run lights, but otherwise does not have electricity. Water is take from a nearby spring (best tasting water ever, legitimately), but there is no indoor plumbing. For plumbing you get a nice and clean outhouse. For those wishing to shower after the runs, the nearby spring or creek can be used, and we will have a small pump shower for the less adventurous. The kitchen is powered by propane gas and food is stored in coolers.
Beds are twins or doubles, spaced in several rooms. The mattresses are comfortable enough, but you will have to bring your own pillows and sleeping gear. We recommend ear plugs and eyemasks for the picky sleepers (like the RD). Exact sleeping arraignments will be determined a few weeks before the event.
VERY limited cell service is available for Verizon. If you need to charge your phones or cameras, be sure to bring a portable battery.
